Social welfare ministry provides relief to 1.96 lakh people
DHAKA, May 21, 2020 (BSS)- The Ministry of Social Welfarehas already
provided food assistance and cash to 1.96 lakh people amid coronavirus
pandemic.
A total of Taka 3 crore from the Ministry of Social Welfare and Tk 23.47
crore from the National Social Welfare Council are beingdistributed at all
the districts across the country till May 11, an official release said here
today.
Relief work is also being carried out with the personal donations of the
officers and employees of the Department of Social Services and the grants of
56,000 registered local voluntary organisations under the ministry, it added.
Work is underway to distribute allowances among 80 lakh beneficiaries under
various agencies of the Ministry of Social Welfare in response to the corona
disaster, said the release.
Of them, 44 lakh beneficiaries in the old age allowance programme, 17 lakh
in the widow and repressed women allowance programme, 15.45 lakh in the
indigent disability allowance programme, 1 lakh in the education stipend
programme for the disabled students, 6,000 in the living standard development
programme for the transgender people, 71,000 destitute people, 50,000
beneficiaries of development programme for the lives of tea workers and
30,000 for cancer, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, paralyzed and thalassemia
patients programme.
Besides, 97,500 people are getting capitation grants in non-government
orphanages.
