LGRD takes huge preparation to tackle disaster

DHAKA, May 20, 2020 (BSS)-Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development
(LGRD) and Co-operatives and all departments or agencies under it have taken
extensive preparations to deal with the possible impact of cyclone Amphan.

The Local Government Division has opened a control room–number 9573625- at
the Bangladesh Secretariat, a press release said here today.

The Department of Public Health Engineering under the Local Government
Division has already stockpiled 15 water treatment plants and 10 lakh water
purification tablets in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram reservoir divisions
to ensure safe drinking water in potentially affected districts due to
disaster.

The Department of Public Health Engineering has opened control rooms in
Dhaka and at the offices of the Executive Engineers in each district.

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has been directed to take
necessary steps to keep the countrywide rural road network safe and
uninterrupted during disasters.

At the same time, all LGED officers or employees working in the coastal
districts have been directed to remain on duty at their respective workplaces
during the general holidays declared by the government in the wake of COVID-
19.

Arrangements have been made to keep the country’s rural road network
active and uninterrupted, including the road that connects to the shelters so
that anyone can go to their respective places or shelters smoothly and
promptly.
