Two held with 53-kg ganja in Rangpur
RANGPUR, May 20, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested two presumed drug traders with 53-kg ganja from Nabdiganj Bazar on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Mahiganj Thana of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) here last night.
“An operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company of RAB-13 searched the stone-laden truck and arrested the drug traders with the smuggled ganja from the spot in the metropolis,” a press release said today.
The elite force seized the ganja especially packed in several sacs, two mobile phone sets, three SIM cards, one memory card and Taka 2,000 in cash from the possessions of the arrested persons.
The arrested drug traders are Md. Faruk, 25, of village Madhya Goddimari and Md. Mazedul Islam, 38, of village Purbo Sardubi in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
During interrogation, the arrested person admitted that they were tactfully carrying the smuggled ganja aboard the truck after buying those from Hatibandha frontier upazila of Lalmonirhat to Bogura district.
“They confessed that they had been involved with trafficking drugs from the frontier areas by trucks loaded with various goods and trading those in other parts of the country for a long time,” the release added.
After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested drug trader to Mahiganj Thana police of RpMP today.
