BTF stands by needy athletes

DHAKA, May 19, 2020 (BSS)- Like the world, the athletes of Bangladesh have
been also hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic as the lethal virus made many
of them jobless.

In this situation, the Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) has stood beside
the needy players who are in financial hardship over the pandemic, said a BTF
press release today.

The BTF donated Taka 5,000 to each of 40 tennis players through a ceremony
held at Ramna National Tennis Court Complex in the city today.

National Sports Council secretary and BTF general secretary Mohammad Masud
Karim handed over the money to each player by obeying the health codes.

The BTF members have raised the fund under the overall supervision of State
Minister for Foreign Affairs and BTF president Md Shahriar Alam.

BTF vice president Mohammad Ali Dwin, BTF treasurer Sheikh Mohammad Aslam,
BTF member Khaled Salahuddin and other federation officials were present on
the occasion.

Since the government declared nationwide shutdown from March 26 last to
prevent the spread of coronavirus, many sports federations and sports
personalities have come forward to help the needy players and staff as well
as the distressed people.

Following the footsteps of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Bangladesh
Football Federation (BFF), the other sporting federations and sports welfare
associations, sports organisers have stood beside the people affected by the
COVID-19.

Earlier, Bangladesh Hockey Federation, Bangladesh Rugby Federation Union,
Bangladesh Athletics Federation, Bangladesh Badminton Federation donated cash
and provided daily essentials to the needy players and underprivileged people
who have been in trouble due to countrywide lockdown over the coronavirus.
