COVID-19 cases cross 600 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 19, 2020 (BSS) – The total of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients crossed the 600 mark as 25 more people were tested positive after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Monday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients stands at 603 in all eight districts of Rangpur division at 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this noon.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at 278 in Rangpur, 24 in Panchagarh, 64 in Nilphamari, 27 in Lalmonirhat, 57 in Kurigram, 36 in Thakurgaon, 93 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, a total of 136 COVID-19 patients were released so far after their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.

“The percentage of recovery among all 603 coronavirus infected patients stands at 22.5 so far in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said

Among the 136 recovered COVID-19 patients, 38 of Rangpur, eight of Panchagarh, 19 of Nilphamari, five of Lalmonirhat, nine of Kurigram, 21 of Thakurgaon, 14 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts in the division, he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of 9,985 collected samples were tested at different laboratories, and of them, the 603 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of about 6.04 in Rangpur division.

However, a total of seven fatalities were reported so far with two each from Rangpur and Nilphamari and one each from Dinajpur, Gaibandha and Panchagarh districts in Rangpur division.

Among the total 603 coronavirus infected patients, 121 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 136 recovered patients and seven deaths while 339 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“Since the beginning from March 10 last, a total of 33,832 people were put in quarantine, and of them, 26,942 released so far and 6,890 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 626 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 503 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,16,285 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 67,467 pieces of the same with a stock of 48,818 pieces in stock in the division.

“The COVID-19 patients are getting treatments at 25 quarantine and isolation centres with 2,552 beds and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two government hospitals to face the situation in the division,” Dr. Khan added.
