28 more test COVID-19 positive in Khulna division

KHULNA, May 18, 2020 (BSS) -Twenty-eight more persons were diagnosed coronavirus (COVID-19) positive after testing their samples at the three COVID -19 laboratories in the division in last 24 hours till 12 noon today, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 343.

The newly detected 28 COVID-19 patients include 23 in Satkhira, two in Kustia, one each in Khulna, Jashore and Chuadanga districts under the division.

“We received 177 samples of suspected coronavirus patients at KMC in Khulna and other samples in Jashore and Kustia laboratories in the last 24 hours and 28 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther.

She informed that the total number of infected patients rose to 343 after testing their samples at the three regional COVID-19 laboratories till 12 noon today, since April 7.

Of the total 343 patients, 21 are in Khulna, nine in Bagerhat, 28 in Satkhira, 92 in Jashore, 43 in Jhenaidah, 19 in Magura, 16 in Narail, 26 in Kustia, 83 in Chuadanga and six in Meherpur, she said.

Of them, 66 patients are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward, 113 were released after recovery and the rest of the patients are taking treatment at their respective homes.

The cured persons include 12 in Khulna, two in Bagerhat, 51 in Jashore, 14 of Jhenaidah, four of Magura, one of Narail, 18 of Kustia, nine of Chuadanga and two in Meherpur districts in Khulna division, Dr. Ferdousi said.

Six COVID-19 infected patients have already died. Of them, two are in Khulna, one each of Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Narail and Meherpur districts, she added.

Besides, one more COVID-19 positive case was detected in Khulna. A newly appointed Nurse of Khulna Medical College who is a resident of 31/8/Gha building Doctor para, at Choto Boyra under Sonadanga thana in Khulna city, an official of Khulna civil surgeon office said here today.

The local administration has imposed lockdown around the Building last night.

Meanwhile, the total number of quarantined people rose to 30,634 today as 431 more were put in quarantine at home or institutions in the last 24 hours till 12noon today.

“So far, a total of 27,513 people were released from home or institutional quarantine and 3,121 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine in all 10 districts of Khulna division.

A total of 3,178 suspected COVID-19 patients were put in institutional quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 2,765 were released in the division,” Dr. Ferdousi said.
