1,000 destitute families get foodstuffs in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 18, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 1,000 daily jobless and hand-to-mouth families got foodstuffs as Ramadan food package from Rajshahi city unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Each of the families were given a packet containing two kilograms of chickpea, sugar and muri each, one kilogram of date, salt and flour each, two packets of vermicelli and suji each and 200 grams of turmeric powder.

The distribution programme was held at Rajshahi Collegiate School and College playground in the city Sunday afternoon through maintaining social distancing and other security measures.

BDRC City unit President and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by its Vice-president Rejaul Karim and Members Prof Tanbirul Alam, Nawsher Ali, Dr FMA Zahid and Ariful Haque distributed the food packages.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to cope with the present pandemic situation.

The government has been dispensing foodstuffs and cash money among the low-incoming and other hand-to-mouth families to mitigate their hardships being caused by the pandemic.
