Tamim behind Soumya Sarkar’s career resurgence

DHAKA, May 17, 2020 (BSS)-Soumya Sarkar showed his gratitude towards his
senior teammate Tamim Iqbal for the resurgence in his career as he almost
faded away after having a tremendous start to the International cricket.

During the 2015 World Cup, Soumya Sarkar showed his batting prowess and
helped Bangladesh make quick runs at the top of the order, which is one of
the reasons that the Tigers could do so well that they moved to the
quarterfinal of the cricket’s biggest extravaganza for the first time.

Soumya then spent the most enjoyable time of his career as he scored an
epic century in Bangladesh’s win against Pakistan. Bangladesh whitewashed
Pakistan in that series, largely due to Soumya’s performance. Against India
and South Africa too, he dazzled with willow to help Bangladesh win both of
the series.

As many thought he now became the next big star, Soumya’s career took a
huge nosedive and suddenly he found him axed from the team. His struggle then
started and after so much ups and downs, Soumya now is on the line to cement
his place in the national team.

“At the start of my career, Tamim Iqbal was my idol,” Soumya said during
the session with ‘Tamim Iqbal’s live show’ in which Liton Das and Test
captain Mominul Haque also was present.

“I wanted to play like Tamim Iqbal but I don’t know the process. I tried to
hit boundary like Tamim and played aggressive cricket, thinking that if I get
out, Tamim Iqbal will take the onus. But I don’t know, that was the big
mistake. Tamim bhai once told me that no one remembers 30 or 40 and if you
can hit 50 or century only people will remember you,” he added.

Soumya continued: ‘Once I was left out from the team, I recalled what Tamim
bhai said. Afterwards, I tried to prolong my innings and in domestic cricket,
I played some long innings, which was my gateway to the national team again.”
