DHAKA, May 17, 2020 (BSS) – Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission
(ACC) Iqbal Mahmood today warned that the national anti-graft agency would
intensify its surveillance to check corruption in the government’s food grain
procurement programme.

“The ACC officials must ensure area-based intensive monitoring on the
government’s food grains procurement programme so that none can get involved
in irregularities or graft in the programme,” he said in an urgent message
sent to the ACC officers of its district and divisional offices.

Mahmood said the ACC will monitor the programme so that none can procure
food grains from middle-men or brokers instead of farmers.

He asked the ACC officials to take immediate measures by forming special
teams and visiting spots once they get any allegation of corruption in the
food grains procurement programme.

“If necessary, take legal actions and conduct immediate drives. You have
to prevent and check corruption,” the ACC chief said.

Earlier in the day, the intelligence unit of the ACC submitted a report to
its chief Iqbal Mahmood.

According to the report, the national anti-graft watchdog received
allegations that a section of government officials in collusion with local
influential people are getting involved in corruption in the food grains
procurement programme.
