Jabbar mourns Mamtaz Begum’s death

DHAKA, May 17, 2020 (BSS) – Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa
Jabbar today expressed deep shock at the death of Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha
chairman Professor Mamtaz Begum.

In a condolence message, Jabbar recalled Mamtaz Begum’s contributions to
the War of Liberation and said she was not only a successful politician, but
also an enlightened person, who led women’s participation in building the
nation.

“The nation will always remember her contributions with deep respect”, he
said.

Jabbar said country was incurred an irreparable loss at the demise of
Mamtaz Begum which never be filled up.

The minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and
conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mamtaz Begum, also the wife of Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member
and Chairman of Bar Council Executive Committee Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman,
passed away at her Dhanmondi residence in the city in the early hours of
today.

She was 74.

Mamtaz, also a freedom fighter and Begum Rokeya Padak winner, had been
suffering from various physical ailments for a long time, family sources
said.

Mamtaz Begum participated in the Language Movement and the six-point
movement, and played an important role in the preparations for the Great War
of liberation, including the 1969 Mass uprising.
