350 more jobless families get food in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 17, 2020 (BSS) – Around 350 more jobless and less-incoming families were given food support to mitigate their livelihood related hardship being caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The families in need were given five kilograms of rice, one kilogram of sugar, one liter of edible oil and one packet of vermicelli each through maintaining social distancing and other security measures.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organized the distribution programme at Hazi Lal Muhammad Eidgah Math in the city on Saturday as part of its continuous humanitarian support to mitigate the present crisis.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by others concerned distributed the food aid.

Earlier on, the city corporation has disbursed 375 tonnes of rice, five tones of flour, 64 tonnes of pulse, 67 tonnes of potato, 2,000 packets of baby food, 300 tonnes of seasonal vegetables and 1,700 packets of cooked foods benefiting around 1.30 lakh jobless and poor families in the city amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the food support was distributed among the needy families at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Foodstuffs will also be distributed among 7,400 people as the gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before the Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.
