DHAKA, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – Noted singer and composer Azad Rahman
passed away at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the city this
afternoon. He was 76.
“Azad Rahman breathed his last at 4.00 today,” said a spokesperson
of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.
He left behind his wife, three daughters, and a host of relatives
and admirers to mourn his death.
Azad, also music director and filmmaker, used to practice khayal, a
modern genre of Hindustani classical music, along with other classical
music.
Born on January 1 in 1944 in Bardhaman, India, Azad Rahman obtained
his bachelor (Honours) degree in Khayal from Rabindra Bharati
University.
He started his career as a music director with working in the
Kolkata Bangla movie Miss Priyonboda.
The noted musician received several awards, including National Film
Award in the best music director and singer category.
