One pharmacy, 2 shops fined Tk 29,000 in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, May, 2016 – Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection
(DNCRP) today fined a pharmacy Taka 25,000 in a drive in village Bhatbaoir
under Manikganj sadar upazila for selling date-expired medicine.

Asaduzzaman Rumel, assistant director of DNCRP, Manikganj, said one of the
villagers complained that he bought medicine from a pharmacy at Bhatbaoir
yesterday for his three-year-old ailing son. But before using, it was found
that the medicine was date-expired and he then complained to the DNCRP.

As the local Deputy Commissioner (DC) S M Ferdous came to know about this,
he directed to conduct a drive at the pharmacy.

AD Asaduzzaman conducted the drive today and recovered a huge quantity of
date-expired medicine from that pharmacy. The pharmacy was sealed temporarily
and fined Tk. 25,000.

Locals complained that the physic owner has been practicing in the area
introducing himself as a doctor for long 30 years.

In a separate drive the DNCRP also fined and realized Tk 4,000 from two
shops at Darogram Bazzar under Saturia upazila for selling pulse beyond
normal price.

During the drives, the DNCRP assistant director was assisted by Upazila
Sanitary Inspector Nilufar Yasmin Jharna and Battalion Ansar, Manikganj.
