Record 46 COVID-19 cases detected in single day in Khulna division
KHULNA, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – A record number of 46 more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in a single day in the division, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 301.
The new cases were confirmed after testing the samples at the three COVID -19 laboratories in the division in last 24 hours till 12 noon today.
The newly detected 46 COVID-19 patients include 35 in Chuadanga, and 11 in Jashore districts under the division.
“We received 68 samples of suspected coronavirus patients at KMC in Khulna and other samples in Jashore and Kustia laboratories in the last 24 hours and 46 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther.
Three COVID-19 laboratories are now operating at Khulna Medical College (KMC) in Khulna, ‘Genome Center’ of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Kushtia General Hospital, she said.
She informed that the total number of infected patients rose to 301 after testing their samples at the three regional COVID-19 laboratories till today 12 noon today, since April 7.
Of the total 301 patients, 19 are in Khulna, seven in Bagerhat, two in Satkhira, 90 in Jashore, 43 in Jhenaidah, 19 in Magura, 15 in Narail, 22 in Kustia, 78 in Chuadanga and six in Meherpur, she said.
Of them, so far, 54 patients are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward, 89 were released after recovery and the rest of the patients are taking treatment at their respective homes.
The cured persons include 12 in Khulna, two in Bagerhat, 44 in Jashore, four in Jhenaidah, four in Magura, one in Narail, 18 in Kustia and four in Chuadanga districts in Khulna division, Dr. Ferdousi said.
The six COVID-19 infected patients have already died. Of them, two are in Khulna, one each in Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Narail and Meherpur districts, she added.
