Rangpur BCL helps farmers in harvesting Boro paddy

RANGPUR, May 16, 2020 (2020) – The district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) continues harvesting Boro paddy to assist farmers in overcoming the shortage of farm labourers amid coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Talking to BSS today, President of district BCL Mehede Hasan Rony said they have been harvesting Boro paddy since May 6, responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to stand beside the farmers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The BCL leaders of the district unit are organising its 20 to 70 local leaders and workers for harvesting and threshing of Boro paddy, drying and packaging those to reach to the farmers’ houses in rural areas across the district,” he said.

The BCL leaders and workers have already harvested Boro paddy on 6.50 acres of land of seven rural farmers free of cost to assist them in overcoming the crisis of farm labourers.

Vice-presidents of district BCL Nure Alam Khushi, Shariful Islam Sharif and Rokunuzzaman Sagar, its Joint General Secretary Mostafa Parvez Jeon, Organising Secretaries Abu Hossain, Adnan Hossain and Atikur Rahman Atik, Health Affairs Secretary Yasin Arafat Shuvo and other leaders are managing the affairs of paddy harvesting, he said.

“The BCL leaders and workers harvested Boro paddy on 75 decimals of land and reached the crop to the house of farmer Dulal Roy in village Uzirpur of Pirganj upazila on May 6 last on the first day,” Rony said.

Later, they harvested Boro paddy on 300 decimals of land of farmer Babul Miah in village Ramnathpur of Ramnathpur union in the same upazila on the next day.

After a gap of three days, they harvested Boro paddy on 60 decimals of land and reached the crop to the house of another farmer in Mirganj area on the outskirts of Rangpur city on May 10.

On May 11, the BCL leaders and workers harvested Boro paddy on 50 decimals of land and reached the crop to the house of farmer Mojibur Rahman in Purbo Khasbag Sabuzpara area of Rangpur metropolis.

“On May 15, we harvested Boro paddy on 33 decimals of land of physically challenged and cancer patient Jahangir Alam in Laksmitari union of Gangachara upazila when Jahangir Alam expressed his boundless happiness,” Rony said.

On the same day, the BCL leaders and workers harvested Boor paddy on 99 decimals of land of farmer Abul Kashem of Barobeel union and 33 decimals of land of farmer Abdul Jalil in Laksmitari union of Gangachara upazila in the district.

Rony expressed his deep gratitude to the BCL leaders of different upazilas and union units for extending their full cooperation in harvesting Boro paddy of the farmers across the district since May 6 last.

“We will continue to assist the farmers in harvesting Boro paddy till the end of the harvesting season to make them happy,” Rony added.
