DHAKA, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper cum batsman Mushfiqur Rahim came down heavily on the fake bidders for interrupting the proceedings of the auction of his historical bat.

Mushfiqur put the bat, which he used to score country’s maiden double century, for auction to raise the funds for the Covid-19 affected people in Bangladesh.

But the fake bidders had bid unfeasible amount, taking the price over Tk. 41 lakh, which forced many true bidders to back out from the auction.

During a facebook live on Friday night, he said the fake bidders left him in embarrassing situation as he didn’t expect such incident.

“I condemn the fraud bidders, for this noble cause you demeaned me…whoever comes forward for this kind of noble gesture, at least support them if you cannot participate,” Mushfiqur said, adding that these people also tarnished the image of the country.

“You demeaned my name, which is still tolerable but the rest of the world saw what you people had done. And it also tarnished the image of Bangladesh. I will expect you to support if someone later comes up with any noble initiative.”

However ending all speculations and the fuss that put the auction in trouble, Mushfiqur Rahim finally got a buyer as Pakistani cricket Shahid Afridi agreed to buy it as a piece of memorabilia for his Shahid Afridi foundation at $20,000 (Tk 17 lakh approximately).

The bat was up for auction on May 9 and tasted several hiccup due to the fraud bidders before the formalities ended on Thursday.

Mushfiqur announced the name of the bidder after appearing live on Facebook Friday evening.

“Thanks to Shahid Afridi for purchasing my bat and contribution to this cause,” Mushfiqur wrote in his facebook.
