Fake paddy seed producer fined Taka 20,000 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court fined the owner of a seed Godown Taka 20,000 for producing and marketing of fake paddy seeds using labels of different seed companies at Dharmodaspur area under Tazhat police station here on Friday evening.

Executive Magistrate Afrin Jahan with assistance of the Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) conducted a raid at the Godown of ‘Bismillah Seeds’ there in the metropolis.

During the raid, the mobile court arrested proprietor of ‘Bismillah Seeds’ Md. Bahar Uddin for producing 1,600 fake paddy seeds without any permission or license from the Ministry of Agriculture or any other government organisations concerned.

The arrested person admitted his involvement with producing fake paddy seeds and marketing those violating section 24(1) of the Seed Act 2018 when the mobile court fined him Taka 20,000 under section 24 (2) of the Act.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (DB and Media) of RpMP Uttam Prasad Pathak, Assistant Police Commissioner (DB) Md. Altaf Hossain, Inspectors ABM Feroz Wahid and Rajesh Kumar Chakraborty and other officials were present.
