REMAND-CONTRACTOR-MURDER
One remanded in Goran contractor murder trial
DHAKA, May 15, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today placed one accused on two-
day police remand in a case lodged over the murder of contractor Abul Bashar
Talukder, 32, in the capital’s Goran area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Yasmin Ara remanded Shafikul as
investigation officer and Khilgaon Police Station sub-inspector Arsel
Talukder pleaded to place him on seven-day remand.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shafikul from Khilgaon Rail Gate
area on May 14 and recovered a machete used in the killing. He, in the
primary interrogation, confessed to hacking Bashar to death.
Shafikul said there was a longstanding feud between two contractor groups
regarding supplying building materials to different construction sites.
Bashar was head of one group and his opponents killed him to make their
business easier.
Abul Bashar Talukder was hacked to death on the night of May 13. His
brother Uzzal Talukder later filed the case with Khilgaon Police Station
against 11 persons.
