COVID-19 cases rises to 256 in Khulna division

KHULNA, May 15, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of reported cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased to 256 in Khulna division with the detection of two more patients after testing samples at the three COVID -19 laboratories in Khulna, Kustia and Jashore in the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

The newly detected two COVID-19 patients are in Jashore district under the division.

“We received 120 samples of suspected coronavirus patients at KMC in Khulna and other samples in Jashore and Kustia laboratories in the last 24 hours and two of those were found COVID-19 positive,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther.

“Three COVID-19 laboratories are now operating at Khulna Medical College (KMC) in Khulna, ‘Genome Center’ of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Kustia General Hospital for testing collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients in the division,” she said.

She informed that the total number of infected patients rose to 256 after testing their samples at the three regional COVID-19 laboratories till today 12 noon today, since April 7.

Of the total 256 patients, 19 are in Khulna, seven in Bagerhat, two in Satkhira, 80 in Jashore, 43 in Jhenaidah, 19 in Magura, 15 in Narail, 22 in Kustia, 43 in Chuadanga and six in Meherpur, she said.

Of them, so far, 54 patients are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward, 83 were released after recovery and the rest of the patients are taking treatment at their respective homes.

“The cured persons include 11 of Khulna, two of Bagerhat, 44 of Jashore, one of Jhenaidah, four of Magura, one of Narail, 18 of Kustia and two of Chuadanga districts in Khulna division,” Dr. Ferdousi said.

“The six COVID-19 infected patients who died so far include two of Khulna, one each of Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Narail and Meherpur districts,” she added.

Meanwhile, the total number of quarantined people rose to 29,666 today as 220 more were put in quarantine at home or institutions in the last 24 hours till 12noon today.

“So far, a total of 26,980 people were released from home or institutional quarantine and 2,886 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine in all 10 districts of Khulna division.

A total of 3,159 suspected COVID-19 patients were put in institutional quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 2,655 were released in the division.

“Besides, 281 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals since the beginning, and of them, 131 were released and 150 are undergoing treatments,” Dr. Ferdousi said.
