First COVID-19 case found at Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, May 15, 2020 (BSS) – One people at Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar has tested positive for coronavirus for the first time since first COVID-19 cases were detected in Bangladesh on March 8.

“A total of 12 people including one Rohingya were found COVID-19 positive from 186 sample tests on May 14 at the PCR lab in Cox’s Bazar,” Civil surgeon of Cox’s Bazar Dr Mahbubur Rahman told BSS.

A total of 186 samples from suspected COVID-19 cases in eight upazilas and 34 Rohingya cams in Cox’s Bazar district were collected and 12 reported COVID-19 positives after testing the samples, Mahbubur added.

As many as 12 people have tested positives for COVID-19 in Cox’s Bazar district yesterday (Thursday), bringing the total number of coronavirus reported cases in the district to 127, according to Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
