ILO to look at social protection in alleviating COVID-19 crisis in
developing countries
DHAKA, May 14, 2020 (BSS) – The International Labour Organization (ILO)
will release a new briefing note looking at the role of social protection in
alleviating the COVID-19 crisis in developing countries and the potentially
devastating consequences where such systems are inadequate or lacking.
The brief proposes a number of emergency responses and longer-term measures
to support recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, according to a message received
here today.
The emergency responses include health care, employment protection and
basic income security.
The message said two separate shorter briefs are also being published,
examining the importance of sickness benefits in the context of COVID-19
recovery.
