PM mourns death of Prof Anisuzzaman

DHAKA, May 14, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of noted educationist National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman.

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with profound respect the outstanding contributions of Prof Anisuzzaman to the field of education and all democratic movements including the 1952 language movement, the 1969 mass upsurge and the 1971 liberation war.

“The country and nation have lost a valiant freedom fighter and a luminary in the education sector in his death,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the nation will remember his invaluable contributions to the field of education and different democratic movements including the great liberation war forever.

“His death is an irreparable loss to the nation,” she said.

The premier reminisced that Prof Anisuzzaman was also her (PM) teacher at the university. “I was a student of the tutorial group of my respected sir,” she remembered.

The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Prof Anisuzzaman breathed his last at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital at 4:55 pm today at the age of 83, his son Ananda Zaman said.

Aside from a combination of heart and kidney ailments, Prof Anisuzzaman was also suffering from a blood infection, according to his son.
