Bangladesh reports 14 more COVID-19 deaths, 1041 fresh cases

DHAKA, May 14, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh today reported 14 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 1041 fresh positive cases overnight.

“Fourteen more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 283,” DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana told a virtual media briefing at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the city.

Nasima said the tally of coronavirus infections has climbed to 18,863 in the same period in the country after 1041 new COVID-19 cases were detected.

The health official informed that a total of 7392 samples were tested at 41 authorised laboratories across the country during the period.

She said among the total infections, recovery rate has slightly raised in the country as 19.10 percent patients were cured till today.

Nasima said 18.52 percent patients have recovered till May 13 and the mortality rate from the deadly virus is 1.53 percent. She said as of May 13, the recovery count rose to 3,361 after 214 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
