Specialized telemedicine centre launched at BSMMU

DHAKA, May 13, 2020 (BSS) – A specialized telemedicine centre has been set
up at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) with the assistance
of the a2i programme of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Division.

State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak today formally
inaugurated the telemedicine center as the chief guest through a virtual
function with BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, said a
press release.

Professor of BSMMU Pharmacology Department and in-charge of ICT Cell Dr Md
Sayedur Rahman, ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, Medical
Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Md Ali Noor, a2i Policy
Advisor Anir Chowdhury, a2i Project Director Dr Md Abdul Mannan and
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director (hospital) Dr Aminul
Islam joined the virtual function as special guests.

According to the press release, the people across the country could take
the healthcare services through video connection by dialing the number
09611677777 while specialist doctors of the BSMMU will render the services.

Addressing the function, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the telemedicine
centre has been set up to reach the healthcare services to the doorsteps of
the people.

Noting that the telemedicine centre will help eliminate discrimination in
the health sector, the state minister said, “Not only during the fight
against COVID-19, but it will also eliminate discrimination in health sector
after the COVID-19 situation”.

The people could receive the healthcare services over phone as well as
through video call at free of cost, he added.

Conducted by a2i’s chief e-governance strategist Farhad Zahid Sheikh,
Synesis IT Limited Managing Director Sohrab Ahmed, Founder of Pulse
Healthcare Services Rubaba Dawla, Co-founder of Daktarbhai Raihan Shamsi and
Co-Founder of Olwel BD Limited MM Aftab Hossain spoke in the function, among
others.
