Fire guts 300 makeshift houses in Kutupalong Rohingya camp

COX’S BAZAR, May 12, 2020 (BSS) – At least 300 makeshift houses were gutted
in a fire erupted at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s
Bazar today.

The fire broke out at block-H of Rohingya camp no-1 located at
Lombashiaghona this morning, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ukhiya
Police Station Nurul Islam told BSS.

Around 10 Rohingyas were injured in the fire that originated from a gas
cylinder, he added.

Nurul said the injured people were rescued from the spot and provided
preliminary treatment.

On information, two fire-fighting units from nearby fire stations rushed
to the spot and brought the blaze under control after one and an half hours
of frantic efforts, said Mohammad Imdadul Islam, an official of Ukhia Fire
Service Station.

However, he said, the extent of losses from the fire could not be assessed
immediately.
