Online Digital Summit-2020 held

DHAKA, May 12, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Digital Summit 2020 was held with a
call to properly utilize telecom sector to fight against COVID-19 and as well
as 5G global ecosystem, architecture spectrum and standardization outlook.

Stakeholders and experts joined the summit, organized by Huawei,through
video conferencing yesterday, said a press release today.

Emphasising on how new technologies like 5G, AI, IoT represent tremendous
opportunities for economy and society, the speakers reiterated the crucial
role of telecommunication sector in the battle against the coronavirus.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Md.
JahurulHaque said the entire world is having a very difficult time and
technology is one of the key components which are still operational in so
many levels.

“We have been hit by COVID-19 when we are on the verge of introducing
epoch-making technologies with such an immense opportunity for the future,”
he said, adding “We can realize the importance of 5G, and the government is
analyzing and setting things.”

BTRC Director General Brig Gen Md. ShahidulAlam said “We are planning to
roll-out 5G next year and spectrum will be allocated among the
telecommunication operators accordingly.”

Vice President of Huawei’s Asia Pacific Region Chen Mingjie (Jay) said “ICT
community has played a critical role in helping governments, businesses and
people everywhere cope with this unprecedented crisis and ultimately defeat
this disease.”

“I believe with the joint efforts of all of us, we will get through this
difficult period as soon as possible,” he added.

BTRC Commissioner Md Aminul Hassan said through the Summit, the
participants have brought many topics into the light – how technology, with
the help of 5G, can support the economy and society, especially during the
crisis of COVID-19.

Huawei Technologies Bangladesh CEO Zhangzhen Jun, CTO Jerry Wang, Scott W
Minehane from Windsor, Victor Zeng and Arvin Mogana from Ookla and other
officials join the event with other members of Bangladesh 5G committee.
