Rangpur BCL harvests Boro paddy on 4.85 acres of land

RANGPUR, May 12, 2020 (2020) – The district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) harvested Boro paddy on 4.85 acres of land of four farmers in the district in a week in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BCL leaders began harvesting and threshing Boro paddy, drying and packing those from Wednesday to assist farmers in overcoming the crisis of farm-labourers and bring smiles on their faces.

Talking to BSS, President of district BCL Mehede Hasan Rony said 20 to 25 leaders of the organisation are organising its 20 to 70 local leaders at the upazila and union levels for harvesting Boro paddy of the rural farmers.

He said Vice-presidents of district BCL Nure Alam Khushi, Shariful Islam Sharif and Rokunuzzaman Sagar, its Joint General Secretary Mostafa Parvez Jeon, Organising Secretaries Abu Hossain, Adnan Hossain and Atikur Rahman Atik, Health Affairs Secretary Yasin Arafat Shuvo and other leaders are managing the process.

“We harvested, threshed, dried and packaged Boro paddy on 75 decimals of crop land, thrashed, dried up, packed and reached the crop to the house of farmer Dulal Roy in village Uzirpur of Pirganj upazila on Wednesday on the first day,” Rony said.

Later, they harvested Boro paddy on 300 decimals of land of farmer Babul Miah in a similar fashion in village Ramnathpur of Ramnathpur union in the same upazila on Thursday.

They harvested Boro paddy on 60 decimals of land, processed and reached the same to the house of a farmer in Mirganj area in the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

On Monday, the BCL leaders and workers harvested Boro paddy on 50 decimals of land, thrashed, dried up, packed and reached the crop to the house of farmer Mojibur Rahman in Purbo Khasbag Sabuzpara area of Rangpur metropolis.

“We will continue harvesting of Boro paddy to reach the houses of farmers free of costs in the same way maintaining physical distance till the end of the harvesting season to assist them in tackling the shortage of farm-labourers,” Rony added.
