KCC mayor distributes foodstuffs among 528 distressed people

KHULNA, May 11, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque distributed foodstuffs among 528 distressed, needy and jobless people as the government continues its efforts to mitigate their sufferings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He dispensed 500 kg of rice, and others essential relief materials among 100 distressed people at 29 wards in the city here today in assistance with the lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, aimed at mitigating their financial hardship amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation by strictly maintaining physical distancing.

Each of the beneficiaries received a sac containing 5-kg rice, potato, onion, soya-bin oil, pulse, soaps and iodized salt.

Later, KCC Mayor distributed 75 mounds rice and others essential relief materials among 428 needy, jobless and destitute people at 22 ward in city as a part of the government’s instant humanitarian support programme.

General Secretary of Khulna City Awami League MDA Babul Rana and ward councilors, among others, accompanied the mayor.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy personnel separately distributed relief materials, including food, iftar items and leaflets on awareness building among the destitute people and sprayed germicides on different roads in Khulna, Barguna and Bagerhat districts yesterday.

In Khulna, Navy personnel distributed iftar items among 750 destitute people at different places in city yesterday, said a press release here today.

In Barguna, the navy contingent conducted campaign against COVID-19 in different areas and distributed 300 leaflets, the release said.

In Bagerhat, the navy conducted campaign against COVID-19 in Digrajbazar, Chila, Chadpai, Mongla Bandor, Boddhomari, Burir dhanga and Chorkonai of Mongla upazila and assisted the local administration for distributing relief materials among 208 poor families, it added.
