Holy Family hospital made dedicated one for COVID-19 patients: Maleque

DHAKA, May 10, 2020 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid
Maleque today said Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital has been dedicated for
COVID-19 patients to supplement the efforts of the government for expanding
healthcare facilities to curb the spread of the fatal disease.

“Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital has been handed over to the government
temporarily…. From now the hospital will provide its healthcare services
for COVID-19 patients,” he told the inaugural function of the hospital
dedicated for treatment of the deadly virus here, an official release said.

Chairman of Holy Family Red Crescent Society Hafiz Ahmed Majumdar, MP,
Vice Chairman Prof Dr Habibe Millat, MP, Secretary of Health Service Division
Ashadul Islam, Secretary of Health Education Division Ali Nur and Director
General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam
Azad, among others, were present at the function.

The health minister said all facilities for treatment of coronavirus
patients are available in the Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital and it will
continue healthcare services till the month of October. The hospital with bed
capacity ranging from 500 to 700 will make significant contribution to the
much-needed healthcare services for patients infected with the lethal virus,
he added.

With more than 75 separate cabins, the hospital is equipped with10 ICUs,
seven ventilators, seven dialysis machines and other necessary medical
facilities, Maleque mentioned.

There are 36 PCR labs in the country, he said adding the government has a
target to set up 16 more PCR labs to expand testing facilities of suspected
cases of coronavirus. “At present, on an average, 5,000 samples of COVID-19
tests are being performed every day. After installation of 16 PCR labs,
nearly 10,000 tests will be carried out in the country,” the minister added.

The DGHS sources said as maximum number of coronavirus positive cases have
been reported in Dhaka and Narayanganj cities, the government has prepared
dedicated COVID-19 hospitals for providing healthcare services to the virus-
infected patients.

These hospitals are – Kurmitola General Hospital, Kuwait Maitree Hospital,
Mohanagar General Hospital, Railway General Hospital in Kamalapur, Infectious
Disease Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Sheikh Russel
Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital, Regent Hospital in Uttara, Regent
Hospital in Mirpur, Sajeda Foundation in Narayanganj, Rajarbag Police
Hospital, Lalkuthi Hospital Mirpur, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (burn
unit), Mugda Medical College hospital, Shahid Tajuddin Medical College
Hospital in Gazipur.

The Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital has been included as a latest one in
the list of dedicated hospitals for COVID-19 treatment.
