Four more recover from COVID-19 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 10, 2020 (BSS) – Four more coronavirus (COVID-19) patients returned home with smiling faces from the 100-bed Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) in Rangpur after their recovery on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier they were diagnosed with the deadly virus after conducting tests of their collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College separately at different times and later hospitalized at the DCIH recently.

Superintendent of the DCIH, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said the four patients were discharged on Saturday as their symptoms were found disappeared and tested for COVID-19 negative after two real-time PCR tests.

The four new recovered patients are Nurse Rina Chowdhury of Rangpur, Medical Technologist Anisur Rahman of Mithapukur in Rangpur, Traffic Sergeant Foysal Mamun of Gobindaganj in Gaibandha and student Mukhtar Hossain of Thakurgaon districts.

“With the release of the four recovered coronavirus patients on Saturday, the total number of recovered patients rose to nine out of total 36 admitted at the DCIH in Rangpur since April 19 last,” Dr. Nabi said.

Among the nine recovered patients, octogenarian Moslem Uddin of village Awliaganj in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur was released for the first time from the DCIH on April 29 last after he was tested for coronavirus negative twice consecutively.

Earlier on May 4 last, two COVID-19 infected Medical Officers of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur Dr. Abdul Halim and Dr. Afsana Liza, were released from the DCIH as their two real-time PCR tests came out negative.

“Besides, two more COVID-19 infected patients, including a staff of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur Anisur Rahman and housewife Marjina Akhter Babita of Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon were released on May 6 last,” Dr. Nabi added.

After undergoing treatments at the DCIH for two to three weeks, the nine COVID-19 patients were tested negative twice in a row and released with discharge certificates declaring them recovered.

Currently, 27 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatments at the DCIH after release of nine recovered patients out of total 36 admitted to the makeshift facility having 10 beds with 10 ventilators at its intensive care unit and 90 general beds.

The doctors, nurses and staff of the facility are bidding farewells to the recovered patients with bunches of flowers before their departure from the DCIH with smiling faces on the way back home.

“A total of 64 staff, including 11 physicians, are providing treatments and health services to the COVID-19 infected patients in the 100-bed CDIH round the clock,” Dr Nabi added.
