KHULNA, May 09, 2020 (BSS) – Around 89 percent of those kept in home or institutional quarantine were released, so far, out of the total 28,080, as they showed no symptoms of novel coronavirus, in the division, an official said here today.

Talking to BSS, Assistant Director (Health) in Khulna Dr. Ferdousi Akther said a total of 23,228 people were released from home quarantine, 1,830 from institutional quarantine and 54 others from isolation in the division till 12 noon today as they showed no coronavirus symptoms.

Meanwhile, a total of 120 people were kept in home or institutional quarantine afresh in the last 24 hour, she said.

Among them, six were kept in quarantine in Khulna, 18 in Bagerhat, 31 in Jashore, two in Magura, 17 in Narail, 21 in Chuadanga and 25 in Meherpur, she added.

The local administrations with assistance of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts in inspiring people to stay home and ensure physical distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 infection.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients are being tested at three COVID-19 laboratories installed at Khulna Medical College in Khulna, ‘Genome Center’ of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Kustia General Hospital in Kustia.

“The armed forces and law enforcement agencies have further enhanced efforts to strictly maintain physical distancing for preventing COVID-19 spread amid its limited community transmission at a few places,” she said.

At the same time, inclusive steps have been taken to enhance capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients under the changing situation amid increasing number of infected patients in Khulna division.
