262 detected COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 8, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
positive patents sharply rose to 262 with detection of 30 more infected
patients in a day after testing 282 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in
Rangpur division last night.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur
division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the 30 newly detected COVID-19 patients include
11 of Kurigram, eight of Lalmonirhat, five of Dinajpur, three of Thakurgaon,
two of Nilphamari and one of Panchagarh districts.

“The district-wise break of the detected COVID-19 patients stands at 89 in
Rangpur, 11 in Panchagarh, 33 in Nilphamari, 13 in Lalmonirhat, 32 in
Kurigram, 24 in Thakurgaon, 36 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha districts in
Rangpur division,” he said.

Among the 262 coronavirus patients, three died and 259 were put in
isolation units of different hospitals where 133 are undergoing treatments
after release of recovered 46 patients and 80 are remaining under treatments
in isolation at homes.

“Currently, 7,303 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine
out of total 28,547 quarantined after release of 21,244 of them till 8 am
today,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, a total of 479 people were put in quarantine at home or
institutions and 548 others released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today
in the division where a limited community transmission of coronavirus
infection continues at places.

Besides, the 46 recovered coronavirus patients include seven of Rangpur,
one of Panchagarh, 10 of Nilphamari, two of Lalmonirhat, three of Kurigram,
six of Thakurgaon, five of Dinajpur and 12 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said 2,552
beds are kept ready at the 25 quarantine and isolation centres for providing
treatments to the coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in all eight districts of
Rangpur division.

Fifteen dedicated government hospitals with 13 beds and 13 ventilator
facilities in the intensive care units (ICU) are providing treatments to
COVID-19 infected patients at two government hospitals in Rangpur and Dinajpur
in the division.

“We have enhanced testing capacity of samples by conducting tests of
samples of suspected patients at two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur Medical
College (RMC) and M Abdur Rahman Medical College in Dinajpur,” Dr. Khan added.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of
Rangpur division currently have 1,005 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other
staff to face the COVID-19 situation.

Besides, preparations have been taken to use different private sector
hospitals having necessary facilities for providing treatments to the
coronavirus infected patients in Rangpur division, if necessary in the future.
