World Red Cross Day tomorrow

DHAKA, May 7, 2020 (BSS) – The World Red Cross Day will be observed
tomorrow in the country like elsewhere in the world with the theme of “Keep
Clapping”.

The World Red Cross Day is celebrated every year commemorating the birth
anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC), who was born in Geneva in the year of 1828.

The programmes of the day this year have been shortened due to COVID-19.

This year, the theme of the day has been taken keeping in mind the role of
the Red Cross and Red Crescent activists and volunteers working in Bangladesh
and around the world to fight against coronavirus.

The main objective of the theme is to recognize the works of all
frontliners, including the volunteers, those are working to tackle the COVID-
19.

Around 97 million members and volunteers of the Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies are honored at this day of being the largest humanitarian network
of relief worldwide serving over 170 countries.

Around 240 million people all over the world have become benefited of the
free assistance of Red Cross workers. In 1922, peace and relief was given by
the Red Cross members to the people affected by the First World War.
