Five released from hospital after COVID-19 recovery in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 7, 2020 (BSS) – Five coronavirus (COVID-19) patients of Rangpur
division returned home from the 100-bed Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital
(DCIH) in Rangpur so far after they were diagnosed with the tedious virus and
later hospitalized.

“The recovered coronavirus infected patients include an 80-year old man, two
physicians, a health worker and a housewife,” said Dr. SM Nurun Nabi,
Superintendent of the DCIH, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital
(RMCH).

Since launching of the DCIH as a makeshift facility at Rangpur Shishu
Hospital on April 19 last, a total of 29 coronavirus infected patients from
all over Rangpur division were admitted there till today.

“Among the admitted patients, octogenarian Moslem Uddin of village Awliaganj
in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur was released from the DCIH on April 29 last as
the first recovered patient,” Dr. Nabi said.

Later, two coronavirus infected Medical Officers of Mithapukur Upazila
Health Complex in Rangpur Dr. Abdul Halim and Dr. Afsana Liza were released
from the DCIH after their recovery on May 4 last.

Two more COVID-19 infected patients, including a staff of Mithapukur Upazila
Health Complex in Rangpur Anisur Rahman, 50, and housewife Marjina Akhter
Babita, 20, of Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon were released on May 6 last.

Currently, 24 admitted coronavirus infected patients are undergoing
treatments at the 100-bed DCIH having 10 beds with 10 ventilators in its
intensive care unit (ICU) and 90 general beds.

The doctors, nurses and staff of the facility are bidding farewells to the
recovered patients with bunches of flowers when they are going out fearlessly
with broad smiles on their faces on the way back to their respective homes.

“A total of 64 staff, including 11 physicians, are providing treatments and
health services to the COVID-19 infected patients in the 100-bed CDIH round
the clock,’ Dr Nabi added.

While expressing his experience to BSS this afternoon, Dr. Nabi said that
courage of the COVID-19 patients is the most vital factor to easily get
recovered from the disease.

“The prevailing negative attitude of the neighbours toward the coronavirus
infected patients is still remaining as the biggest obstacle for not only the
COVID- 19 patients, but also for their family members, in providing treatments
at home,” he said.

The people should not be panicked from the coronavirus outbreak as the rate
of death from the virus infection is very low and the infected patients can
get better treatments at home for quicker recovery.

He suggested the family members to become courageous and properly abide by
the health directives and take care of their infected family members to get
them recovered at home.
