201 coronavirus infected, 36 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 5, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 201 coronavirus (COVID-19) patients were detected since the beginning, and 36 of them recovered, in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am Tuesday.

Health officials said the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases and recovered patients are showing an increasing trend in recent days amid limited scale community transmission of the deadly virus in the division.

“The total number of coronavirus patients sharply rose to 201 with detection of 20 more COVID-19 positive cases in the division on Monday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Among the newly detected 20 COVID-19 patients, 13 are hailing from Rangpur alone, two from Nilphamari and one each from Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts.

“Currently, the district-wise break of the detected COVID-19 patients stands at 75 in Rangpur, nine in Panchagarh, 25 in Nilphamari, four in Lalmonirhat, 22 in Kurigram, 20 in Thakurgaon, 22 in Dinajpur and 24 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, five more coronavirus infected patients recovered and they were released from the isolation units on Monday raising the total of recovered patients to 36 in Rangpur division.

The 36 recovered coronavirus patients include six of Rangpur, one each of Panchagarh and Kurigram, nine in Nilphamari, two of Lalmonirhat, five of Thakurgaon and 12 of Gaibandha districts.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 20,352 people were released from quarantine out of the total 26,840 quarantined so far in Rangpur division.

“Currently, a total of 411 people are remaining in institutional quarantine in the division where a total of 201 people have been tested for COVID-19 positive so far,” he said.

“All of the 201 infected patients were put in the isolation units of different government hospitals and of them, 36 released after their recovery and three died so far with one each in Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Khan said.

Meanwhile, comprehensive steps have been taken to enhance capacity of testing samples and providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients under the changing situation amid increasing number of infected patients in Rangpur division.

“Currently, samples of suspected COVID-19 patients are being tested at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur Medical College (RMC) in Rangpur and M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur in the division,” he said.

Besides, preparations have been taken to use different private sector hospitals having necessary facilities for providing treatments to the coronavirus infected patients in Rangpur division, if necessary in the future.
