Govt continues providing foodstuff among destitutepeople in Netrakona

Netrakona May 4, 2020 (BSS) – The government continues providing food
assistance to the destitute and jobless people in ten upazilas under the
district to mitigate their livelihood -related hardship triggered by pandemic
of novel coronavirus.

“The government allocated 2,279.5 metric tonnes of rice and Taka
1,14,33,500 in cash for distribution among the needy, helpless and poor
people of the district so that they do not face food crisis during the period
of lockdown,” Deputy commissioner (DC) Netrakona Main-UL-Islam said while
talking to journalists at the conference room of his office here today.

“Netrakona district administration has already distributed 931 metric
tonnes of rice and Taka 52,46,000 in cash among 1,03,592 destitute and
jobless families in ten upazilas under the district till today”, the DC said,
adding that 1,348.5 metric tonnes of rice and Taka 61,87,500 are in stock to
continue providing food assistance.

Apart from these, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated Taka 20 lakh from
the prime minister’s relief fund for distribution among the poor people.

The prime minister also sanctioned Taka 10,80,000 from the prime minister’s
relief fund for distribution among the destitute and orphan students of 108
QawmiMadrashas of the district during the holy month of Ramadan.

As per directives of the government, district food department continues
selling rice at the rate of Taka 10 per kilogram among the low-income group
of people to help them overcome the ongoing unwanted situation.

The food department through OMS dealers has already sold 3755.30 metric
tonnes of rice at the rate of Taka 10 per kilogram among the low-income group
of people in the district.

The DC said Netrakona district town has already been put under lockdown to
prevent social transmission of pandemic Coronavirus.

Members of the law-enforcing agencies including Army, Rab and Police have
been working round the clock to inspire the people to follow the lockdown
rules and maintain social distancing, he added.

He requested the people to stay indoor following health instructions to
combat coronavirus situation.
