4,350 metres of Padma Bridge visible as 29th span installed

MUNSHIGANJ, May 4, 2020 (BSS) – The 29th span of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge was installed at Mawa point in Munshiganj today, making visible 4.35 kilometers of the 6.15-km bridge.

“The 29th span of the bridge was installed on the pillar number 19 and 20 at Mawa point around 10.45 am today,” executive engineer of the bridge project Dewan Md Abdul Kader told BSS.

He said the 29th span was brought to Mawa point from Munshiganj’s Kumarbhog Construction Yard through ‘Tian-E’ flouting crane and the span installation work began around 8 am today.

With the installation of the 150-metre span today, total 29 spans out of 41 were installed in phases, Kabir said, adding the workers are following the heath guidelines in carrying out their works in the project.

On April 11 last, the 28th span of the Padma Bridge was installed at Zazira point in Shariatpur.

Earlier in August 2019, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the plying of vehicles on the Padma Bridge is expected to begin by June 2021.
