Over 17.47 lakh Khulna families get govt relief

KHULNA, May 04, 2020 (BSS) – More than 17.47 lakh jobless and needy families have already received rice and money as special government relief in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the division.

Officials concerned said the government started distributing rice and money under a special relief programme to assist the jobless and poor people in tackling the current situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The government has already allocated 17,057.43 tonnes of rice and Taka 7.73 crore cash for distribution among the jobless, distressed, backward and needy people of all ten districts in division to cope with the present situation.

“Distribution of 11,217.43 tonnes of rice among 9.88-lakh families and Taka 5.27 crore among 7.59-lakh people of the division already completed as of Sunday” said Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Hossain Ali Khondokar.

We have still 5,840.10 tonnes of rice and Taka 2.46 crore in stock for distribution as the government continues allocating more rice and money frequently to stand beside the destitute people of the division.

“Distribution of more rice and money along with other foodstuffs still continues in full swing across Khulna division to assist the people in need in tackling the unprecedented situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak,” Khondokar said.

The district and upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives are distributing the rice and money by strictly maintaining physical distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.

In addition to the massive government efforts, the armed forces, police, RAB-6, trade bodies and affluent people are also distributing foodstuffs among the jobless people to help them face financial hardship caused by lethal virus spread in the division.
