31 coronavirus patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 4, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-one among the total detected 181 coronavirus (COVID-19) patients have already recovered in Rangpur division where an increasing trend in recovery rate continues in recent days.

“The recovery rate of coronavirus patients stands at 17.13 percent today against 14.97 percent yesterday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The total number of coronavirus infected patients rose to 181 with detection of 13 more COVID-19 positive cases after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur on Sunday.

“Despite a rising trend in the recovery rate of coronavirus infected patients, the health administration has taken frantic measures to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients and fight against community transmission of the virus in Rangpur division,” he said.

With the recovery of six more COVID-19 infected patients on Sunday, the total number recovered patients rose to 31 in the division.

“The 31 recovered coronavirus patients in Rangpur division include four in Rangpur, one in Panchagarh, eight in Nilphamari, two in Lalmonirhat, one in Kurigram, five in Thakurgaon and 10 eight in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

As on Monday morning, the district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients stands at 62 in Rangpur, eight in Panchagarh, 24 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 22 in Kurigram, 19 in Thakurgaon and 20 in Dinajpur and 23 Gaibandha in the division.

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients will continue rising in the future as treatment for the disease requires around a month and a patient has to be tested negative thrice consecutively after every week to get released from isolation.

Dr. Siddiqui said a total of 75 COVID-19 infected patients are undergoing treatments at the isolation units of different hospitals and 73 others at their respective home in self isolation in Rangpur division.

He said the total number of quarantined people rose to 26,171 today as 675 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Currently, a total of 6,269 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine with release of 19,902 others from quarantine so far in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

A total of 898 suspected COVID-19 patients were put on institutional quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 511 were released in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said physicians, nurses and other health service providers are providing treatments to coronavirus infected patients at 15 dedicated corona hospitals in Rangpur division.

“The Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) with 10 beds and 10 ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the 100-bed Shishu Hospital in Rangpur continues providing treatments to COVID-19 infected patients of Rangpur division,” he added.
