‘Ensure coordination in relief activity, preventing coronavirus’

RANGPUR, April 3, 2020 (BSS) – Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Md. Rezaul Ahsan has directed the officials concerned to ensure proper coordination for smooth relief activity and preventing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The Secretary passed the direction while presiding over a five-hour long coordination meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Secretary Rezaul Ahsan is currently conducting his additional responsibility as the in-charge of proper coordination for preventing COVID-19, relief activity among affected people and law and order for Rangpur district.

The officials briefed the Secretary on ongoing activities like collecting samples of suspected coronavirus patients and testing those at the COVID Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RMC) and treatment facilities of the detected patients and relief activities in the district.

The meeting was informed that the government has so far allocated a total of 2,692 tonnes of rice, and of them, 2,174 tonnes of rice have already been distributed among the jobless, needy, helpless and distressed people of the district.

Besides, 548 tonnes of rice was allocated for the jobless and needy people of Rangpur City Corporation and more 300 tonnes of rice will be allocated soon for the purpose.

The Secretary directed all concerned at the district and upazila levels to remain aware of the COVID-19 situation to prevent its further spread and reaching relief materials to the affected people at their doorsteps as per directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We must reach foodstuffs at the doorsteps of the affected, jobless, helpless and needy people so that none of them would suffer from a food crisis. No negligence and irregularities will be tolerated in this connection,” he said.

The Secretary said the government will provide 20 kg of rice at Taka 10 per kg to 1.40-lakh needy families of Rangpur district duringv the holy month of Ramadan in addition to the ongoing assistance under various social safety net programmes

Asib Ahsan, Police Super Biplob Kumar Sarkar, District Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy, President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, Jatiya Party leaders and officials of different government departments were present.
