Razzak warns against corruption in distribution of stimulus package

TANGAIL, May 2, 2020 (BSS)- Agriculture Minister Dr AbdurRazzak today said
the government would take tougheractions if any irregularity and corruption
is found in the distribution of government’s stimulus packages for the
agricultural sector.

“The government is giving more importance on continuing the present trend
of producing agro items during the Coronavirus situation and to increase
production in future,” he said.

The minister was addressing a special meeting on Coronavirus situation
organized by the district administration at the meeting room of deputy
commissioner.

Razzak said Aush,jute and sesame seeds, fertilizer and other materials have
already been distributed at free of cost to the farmers across the country.
Besides, government supports are being given to the farmers for cultivating
summer session vegetables, he added.

The agriculture minister said the government has already declared Taka
5,000 crore stimulus package with four percent interest rate along with
giving subsidy of Taka 9,000 crore toagri-sector. Besides, the government has
decided to give loan with four percent interest rate instead of 9 percent
against the loan of Taka 14,500 crore due to Coronavirus pandemic, he added.

Razzak warned that tough actions would be taken if any irregularity and
corruption is found in distribution of the government stimulus packages.

Relying to a query about the effect of current epidemic, the agriculture
minister said there is a bumper production of Boro rice.

He hoped that there will be no food shortage in next 7 to 8 months if the
farmers can harvest their corps in due time.

Lawmakers Ataur Rahman Khan, Tanvir Hasan and MdSanowar Hossain,
ZilaParishad Chairman MdFazlur Rahman Khan, Municipality Mayor Jamilur
Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr MdWahiduzzaman and Police Super Sanjit Kumar Roy,
among others, were present at the meeting with Deputy Commissioner MdShahidul
Islam in the chair.
