Cheques, food distributed to Khulna jute mill workers, destitute

KHULNA, May 02, 2020 (BSS) – The cheques of around Taka 4.8 lakh and relief items were distributed among jute mill workers and destitute families in the city aimed at mitigating their financial hardship amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque distributed the cheques of money from Workers Welfare Fund among 38 jute mill workers and their families on the premises of Divisional Labour Directorate today morning.

Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation arranged the cheques distribution programme.

Later, the city mayor distributed relief materials among 323 jobless people on Daulotpur BL College premises by strictly maintaining physical distancing.

Each of the beneficiaries received a sac containing 7-kg of rice, vegetables, potato, onion, soya-bin oil, pulse, soaps and iodized salt from the stockpile of supplies donated by the affluent people.

Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain, Director of Khulna Divisional Labour Directorate Md. Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Inspector General of the Directorate of Factory and Establishment Inspection Md. Ariful Islam among others, accompanied the mayor.
