Recovery of coronavirus patients increasing in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 2, 2020 (BSS) – The recovery rate of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients continues increasing as three more got recovered on Friday raising the number of recovered patents to 19 in Rangpur division.

“As treatment of the coronavirus patients takes time, the recovery rate started increasing little late and the trend will continue onward in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Out of total 143 detected COVID-19 positive cases in all eight districts of Rangpur division, 19 of them in four districts have already recovered, returned home and resumed normal life.

“Among the 19 recovered coronavirus infected patients, three each are of Rangpur and Thakurgaon and eight of Gaibandha and five of Nilphamari districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Dr. Siddiqui said more 15 people were detected as coronavirus positive after testing a total of 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Friday raising the number of infected patients to 143 in the division.

Currently, the district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients stands at 46 in Rangpur, eight in Panchagarh, 16 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 18 in Kurigram, 16 in Thakurgaon, 17 in Dinajpur and 19 Gaibandha districts of the division.

“Two coronavirus infected patients with one each of Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts died so far in Rangpur division,” he said, hoping that the death rate of COVID-19 infected patients will remain lowest in the country.

Meanwhile, a total of 19,023 people were released out of a total 24,964 quarantined in Rangpur division where 5,942 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine.

“A total of 395 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 322 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, 783 people were put in institutional quarantine and 683 of them released so far and 100 suspected COVID-19 patients are now remaining in isolation in different institutions of the division.

“Besides, a total of 143 COVID-19 patients were put in isolation in the Isolation Centres of different government hospitals and of them, 20 released and 123 are still undergoing treatments at hospitals or home,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said comprehensive steps have been taken to enhance capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the wake of increasing number of infected patients in Rangpur division.

Besides, preparations have been taken to use different private sector hospitals having necessary facilities for providing treatments to the coronavirus infected patients in Rangpur division, if necessary in the future.

“Currently, we have 15 dedicated hospitals for COVID-19 patients with 13 beds and 13 ventilators’ in the intensive care units of two government hospitals in Rangpur and Dinajpur to provide treatments to coronavirus infected patients,” he said.

Besides, coronavirus patients are also getting treatments at 1,260 quarantine beads in 10 Quarantine Centres and 1,292 isolation beds in 15 Isolation Centres in Rangpur division.
