15,265 people released from quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, May 2, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 15,265 people have, so far, been given clearance certificates after expiry of their respective 14-day quarantined period in all eight districts under Rajshahi division till 8am today.

Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said 8,280 others remained in home and institutional quarantine in the division at present.

A total of 23,545 people had been put under home quarantine since March 10 last to prevent community transmission of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, a total of 304 new persons have been kept under home quarantine as part of the present hectic efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine while another 462 people were released in the division in the last 24 hours till this morning.

Among the new ones, 183 have been home-quarantined in Chapainawagonj, 37 in Naogaon, 20 in Natore, 32 in Joypurhat, 15 in Bogura, five in Sirajganj and 12 in Pabna districts.

Dr Gopen Acharya said a total of 107 confirmed patients for COVID-19 are undergoing treatment in corona units while 192 others in isolation units of different hospitals and another 133 were released.

He added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine as it is being adjudged as an important means of containing the community transmission of the virus.

The district-wise break-up of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at 14 in Rajshahi, two in Chapainawabganj, 17 in Naogaon, nine in Natore, 32 in Joypurhat, 21 in Bogura, two in Sirajgonj and ten in Pabna districts.

Following confirmation of Covid-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons at different areas in the division were placed on lockdown.

Dr Gopen said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, are being brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home quarantine so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, one more coronavirus sample testing laboratory is going to be functioning in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as it has already received another machine for Polymerase Chain Reaction testing, widely known as PCR, that will be used for identification of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The laboratory is being installed in RMCH’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) that will bring furthermore dynamism into the field of bringing all the coronavirus suspected people under testing in the region.
