16 coronavirus patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 1, 2020 (BSS) – Sixteen coronavirus (COVID-19) patients for
northern districts have already been recovered and started leading normal life
at their respective homes in Rangpur division.

Health officials said though the treatment process of coronavirus infected
patients is longer, the recovery rate will start increasing from the coming
weeks despite the rising trend in the infection.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur
division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this afternoon that the total number of
coronavirus infected patients rose to 128 in all eight districts of the
division till Thursday night.

“Among the 16 recovered patients, three each are of Rangpur and Thakurgaon
and five each of Gaibandha and Nilphamari districts,” he said.

Two infected patients with one each of Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts
died so far in Rangpur division.

“Currently, the recovery rate of coronavirus patients is slower as it is
mandatory for an infected patient to become tested negative twice every week
consecutively during treatments in isolation at home or hospital,” he said.

The health administration has put maximum efforts to ensure treatments to
the coronavirus patients at 15 isolation centres at 15 dedicated corona
hospitals and 12 corona centres in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients is: 39 in Rangpur,
eight in Panchagarh, 15 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 11 in Kurigram,
16 in Thakurgaon, 17 in Dinajpur and 19 in Gaibandha districts of the
division.

“Currently, 56 COVID-19 infected patients are undergoing treatments at the
isolation units of different hospitals and 56 others at their respective home
in self isolation, 16 recovered and two died in Rangpur division,’ Dr.
Siddiqui added.

As on Friday, the total number of quarantined people rose to 24,567 as 500
more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 456 others were
released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Currently, a total of 5,867 people are remaining in home or institutional
quarantine with release of 18,700 others from quarantine so far in the Rangpur
division.

A total of 671 suspected COVID-19 patients were put on institutional
quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 476 were released in all
eight districts of the division.

“Besides, 128 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation
units of different dedicated corona hospitals since the beginning, and of
them, 17 released and 111 are undergoing treatments now,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the Dedicated Corona
Isolation Hospital (DCIH) in Rangpur city with 10 beds and 10 ventilators in
the intensive care unit (ICU) is smoothly providing treatments to COVID-19
infected patients.

Besides, three more beds are available at the ICU with three ventilators at
M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur for providing treatments
and support to the COVID-19 infected patients in critical conditions.

“Currently, we have 1,005 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff at
the government-run upazila health complexes, hospitals and other health
service providing facilities in all eight districts of Rangpur division,” Dr.
Khan added.
