BGB seizes Tk 14.94cr drugs, smuggled goods in April

DHAKA, May 01, 2020 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized narcotics, arms and other smuggled goods worth Taka 14.94 crore from different parts of the country, including the border areas, in the month of April, 2020.

The seized drugs include 3,10,621 yaba tablets, 22,951 bottles of phensidyl, 1,439 bottles of foreign liquor, 290 liters of local liquor, 29 cans of beer, 560 kilograms (kg) ganja, 400 grams of heroin, 1,054 injections, 2,179 Senegra tablets and 87,470 other tablets, according to a BGB press release issued here today.

The seized smuggled items include 2,044 cosmetics items, 32 sarees, 1,000 readymade garments, 275 meter clothes, 543 cubic feet wood, 111 kg of tea, 10,120 kg of coal, 3 private cars, 1 pickups, 10 CNGs or auto-rickshaws and 59 motorcycles.

The recovered arms include two pistols, three other types of weapons, three improvised explosive devices (IED) and 7 rounds of bullets.

Legal actions were taken against 185 smugglers for human trafficking and other illegal activities.

Besides, one Bangladeshi national and one Indian national were nabbed for crossing the border illegally and legal actions were taken in this connection.
