508 bullets, 40 chargers recovered in Parbatipur

RANGPUR, April 30, 2020 (BSS) – Police recovered 508 rounds of old bullets and 40 pieces of chargers from under the ground of a house premises in Bashir Bania Bazar area of Chandipur Union in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur today.

“Two labourers detected the presence of the bullets while digging earth there for constructing a sanitary latrine and informed police about the matter,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Parbatipur Model Police Station Mokhlesur Rahman told BSS at 4 pm.

A police team led by OC (Investigation) of Parbatipur Model Police Station Sohel Rana rushed to the spot and recovered the bullets from under the ground with assistance of the labourers and local freedom fighters.

“The recovered badly rusted ammunition includes 383 pieces of bullets of three-knot three rifles, 123 pieces of pistol bullets and 40 pieces chargers,” the OC said.

Owner of the house housewife Ruby Begum said her husband was freedom fighter Mahbubur Rahman who died one and a half years ago.

“My husband bought the piece of land from one Abdul Wahab and built their house there 20 years ago. Two hired labourers found the bullets today after digging two feet of the soil,” Ruby said.

Saiful Islam, a local freedom fighter, said the bullets might have been buried there by the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation in 1971.

“A general diary (GD) was filed in this connection and a prayer will be submitted to a Dinajpur court soon seeking permission for destroying the damaged bullets and chargers,” OC Rahman added.
