18,251 released from quarantine in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 30, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 18,251 people were released from quarantine and 5,816 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine out of total 24,067 quarantined in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said a total of 116 suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) patients were tested positive after testing a total of 3,201 collected samples from across the division till Wednesday.

“A total of 15 COVID-19 infected patients among the 116 detected patients, including an octogenarian man, recovered till Wednesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Five new COVID-19 positive cases were detected on Wednesday as limited community transmission of coronavirus infection continues at fewer places in the division where the overall situation still remains under control.

Meanwhile, a total of 286 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 4,487 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in all eight districts of the division.

Since the beginning, 651 people were put in institutional quarantine and 447 of them were released and 104 suspected COVID-19 patients are now remaining in isolation in different institutions of the division.

“Besides, a total of 116 suspected COVID-19 patients were put in isolation in the Isolation Centres of different government hospitals and of them, 17 released and 99 are still remaining under treatments,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients are now being tested at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur Medical College (RMC) in Rangpur and M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur in the division.

“Among the total 116 detected coronavirus patients at these two COVID-19 Laboratories, 43 are undergoing treatments at different hospitals and 56 at home isolations, 15 others recovered and two died in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients is: 32 in Rangpur, eight in Panchagarh, 13 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 10 in Kurigram, 15 in Thakurgaon, 16 in Dinajpur and 19 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said comprehensive steps have been taken to enhance capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the wake of increasing number of infected patients in Rangpur division.

Besides, preparations have been taken to use different private sector hospitals having necessary facilities for providing treatments to the coronavirus infected patients in Rangpur division, if necessary in the future.

“Currently, we have 15 dedicated hospitals for COVID-19 patients with 13 beds in the intensive care units of two government hospitals in Rangpur and Dinajpur to provide treatments to coronavirus infected patients,” he said.

A total of 1,260 quarantine beads at 10 Quarantine Centres and 1,292 isolation beds at 15 Isolation Centres are providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the division, he added.

“The administrations, Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies have put maximum efforts on inspiring people to stay at home, maintain physical distance and abide by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19,” he added.
