Public-private joint effort needed to tackle corona crisis: Anisul

DHAKA, April 29, 2020 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq has said public-private joint efforts are needed to
tackle the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared a couple of stimulus packages
to tackle the crisis created by coronavirus on country’s economy. She has
declared an overall package of Taka 72,750 crore,” the law minister told a
web seminar (webinar) titled “COVID-19 and Human Rights: Protecting The Most
Vulnerable” last night, an official release said.

Organized by the United Nations Global Compact, the seminar was held in
Washington DC. The UN Human Rights Affairs High Commissioner Michelle
Bachelet and Brazilian personal care cosmetics maker Natura & Co Holding SA
executive chairman Roberto Marques attended the webinar, among others.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first announced a stimulus package of Taka
5,000 crore for export-oriented industries and on the second stage declared
four more stimulus packages of Taka 67,750 crore. She also announced a Taka
5,000 crore stimulus package for agriculture sector to overcome the possible
COVID-19 impact,” the law minister added.

Anisul further said the government is working relentlessly to ease the
sufferings of commoners across the country amid the ongoing crisis created by
coronavirus and managed to reach emergency aid to 70,67,930 families till
now.

The law minister said apart from the government, many private
organizations and persons have come to the front to tackle the corovirus
crisis in the country.

“But if the garment factories too could be able to ensure social security
and health safety of their workers, it would have been easier to tackle the
crisis in Bangladesh,” he added.
