GAIBANDHA, APRIL 29, 2020 (BSS) – Sundarganj upazila agriculture office has set up a unique example for the maize farmers of the upazila through creating linkage between the Kazi Feed and the maize growers.

Official sources said a total of 3,500 hectares or 26,250 bighas of land of the upazila were brought under maize farming during the current season.

The farmers produced a bumper production of maize this year due to availability of fertilizers, seed, fuel, pesticides and other agri inputs at fair prices.

But farmers thought they would not get their desired prices due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Considering the problem of the farmers, officials of the upazila agriculture office came forward with the positive attitude and stood beside them.

The agri officials communicated with the high officials of Kazi Feed of Panchagarh to procure maize from the farmers of the upazila at reasonable prices.

In quick response, officials of Kazi Feed decided to purchase 200 tonnes of maize from the farmers at Tk 660 per maund (37 kg).

Syed Reza-e-Mahmud, upazila agriculture officer, said the Kazi Feed has already purchased 150 tonnes of maize from the farmers at reasonable prices till Tuesday.

“We are also communicating with other companies of the country for selling the crop at fair prices,” he said.

Talking to the BSS, deputy director of department of agricultural extension Masudur Rahman said pragmatic measures had been taken so that the other farmers of the district can sell their maize crop to the companies at reasonable prices.
